Empowering Women and Promoting Climate-Resilient Agriculture in Bajura with Women-Friendly Equipment Distribution
  • विदुर न्युज

In a significant step towards promoting climate-resilient agriculture, women-friendly agriculture equipment has been distributed to poor and marginalized women farmers’ groups across three local levels in Bajura district. Budhinanda Municipality, Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality, and Himali Rural Municipalities each received 2 mini tillers and 2 mini tillers cum potato ridge makers.

This initiative, spearheaded by Local and Provincial Economic Development / Green Resilient Agriculture Productive Ecosystems (LPED/GRAPE) in collaboration with local governments in Bajura, saw the active participation of Ex-Provincial Assembly Members, Mayors/Chairpersons, Acting Chief Executive Officers, Agriculture Section Chiefs, Municipal Agriculture Coordinators, and ward representatives.

As part of the program, farmers in each local level underwent a two-day onsite orientation training on the installation, repair, and maintenance of the mini tillers and potato ridge makers. This training is crucial to ensure that the farmers can effectively use and maintain the equipment, thus maximizing its benefits.

In a bid to empower women in agriculture, the distribution of mini tillers and potato ridge makers focuses on addressing both gender and environmental challenges. These tools are lightweight and easy to handle, significantly reducing physical strain and fatigue for women farmers. Mini tillers enhance productivity by speeding up soil preparation, while potato ridge makers streamline the ridging process. Their ergonomic design ensures user comfort, and their versatility allows for multiple farming applications.

This initiative not only promotes efficiency and reduces dependence on manual labor but also supports sustainable agricultural practices. By improving crop yields and fostering greater economic independence, it contributes to the empowerment of women in rural areas. Furthermore, by adopting these modern agricultural tools, farmers are better equipped to handle the challenges posed by climate change, thereby supporting climate-resilient agriculture in the region.
